They pledged political determination and priorities for the development of the area and called for investors’ coordination during implementation. Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung said: “I appreciate the support of the Dutch government, the World Bank, and Vietnam’s development partners in recent years. Vietnam is calling for continued support in adapting to climate change in Vietnam and in the Mekong river delta in particular.  Prime Minister Mark Rutte said the Mekong Delta Plan could help to reduce the impact of climate change. He said “it is time to turn words into action. The Netherlands is proud to share its experience with other deltas in the world, including the Mekong river delta. Vietnam and the Netherlands should work together to turn theory into reality for the sustainable development of the Mekong river delta.”

The delegates discussed and analyzed opportunities, challenges and development visions of the Mekong river delta while adapting to climate change and rising sea levels. They pledged support for the Vietnamese government and recommended ways to implement the Mekong Delta Plan.
