Phase one of Nam Con Son 2 gas pipeline complete

PetroVietnam Gas Joint Stock Corporation (PV Gas) has taken over phase one of Nam Con Son 2 gas pipeline which will be able to supply more than seven billion cubic meters of gas for household users in southeastern provinces.

Work on Nam Con Son 2 pipeline project started in 2013 with two phases. In the first phase, a 151-km pipeline worth VND8.46 trillion (US$402 million) was built to link Thien Ung gas pipeline and Platform BK4A and collect surplus gas, around one million cubic meters per day, from Dai Hung gas field.

Vietnam National Oil and Gas Group (PVN) has approved a proposal to connect the gas pipeline of Dai Hung gas field to Nam Con Son 2 gas pipeline to bring gas ashore. At the same time, PVN has extended the duration of the Thien Ung gas field development project to cut costs at a time of low oil prices.

According to PV Gas, the first gas flow from Dai Hung was transported to Bach Ho-Dinh Co gas pipeline via Nam Con Son 2 pipeline on December 5 last year and the pipeline was test run on December 14 last year.

Nam Con Son 2 pipeline project will support oil and gas exploration and exploitation in Nam Con Son basin, and gas export in the future, and help protect Vietnam’s sovereignty over waters and islands, PV Gas said in a statement.

The project cost a total of US$402.6 million with 70% of it sourced from loans. Nam Con Son pipeline now supplies gas for eight thermal power stations, which make up one-third of the country’s electricity output. They are Ba Ria, Phu My 1, Phu My 2.1, Phu My 2.2, Phu My 3, Phu My 4, Nhon Trach 1, and Nhon Trach 2.
