A sigh of relief… our test products have passed customs!

Monday July 22nd, 2013 - Amsterdam Schiphol Airport – Before boarding the plane I am still a bit nervous and decide to contact my Vietnamese distributor…Will the products be on time and will they get through customs tomorrow ?

Once arrived at the airport in Ho Chi Minh City, where I am standing in the middle of the Vietnamese chaos, I pass the big crowd which is waiting with balloons and hotel signs. Each person well dressed to welcome their loved ones, friends or business associates. A few moments later I see our distributor Thinh of VCT. We shake hands and he informs me with the good news: the products have come through customs. Yes! A sigh of relief escaped my breath, because now I am able to do my testing. I am also pleased to be back in Ho Chi Minh City after a few months.

Through the typical city center, where the moto-bikes with different kinds of loads pass us, we continue with a three-hour ride to the idyllic town of Vung Tau where our hotel is located. Once we arrive at our hotel, we leave our products in the hotel lobby and we start prepararing for the test of next day. In the evening my distributor and I go to a restaurant with a beautiful view over the waters of Vung Tau Bay. If we did not know better it would feel like we were on vacation.

It is Wednesday. After breakfast we visit the first test location. The test site is at PTSC MC Shipyard in Vung Tau. We are well received and explain what we are going to do. The tests we carry out is on typical practical cases. We apply pipes with our coatings and linings for corrosion and erosion protection, do successful repairs to pipes with leaks and we also protect pipes against mechanical corrosion. The day passes quickly but we also have an evening program. An old colleague of ALE Heavy Lift is in town, and we agree to meet each other in the evening. It is an impressive custom ….. Especially when you come from far a Vietnamese will immediately make room in his schedule to see each other.

The next day we go back to the PTSC Shipyard where we look at the test results and discuss them. The client is very excited about the potential of our innovative and unique products. It is a good basis for further possibilities which makes both parties happy.

We continue our journey to the capital Ho Chi Minh City. We reach the city by water taxi passing the delta and the urban waterways. It is Thursday already, our distributor and I leave the hotel and go to the next test location PV Oil. During my travels through Vietnam, I have seen and experienced a lot but I have never seen a place like this… While travelling to our next client we come across a bridge that looks like it could collapse any minute. Good thing I brought my swimming trunks! After passing some Vietnamese villages we then reach the client, PV OIL tank terminal. We introduce ourselves and then we discuss the tests for the next day. They had an interesting test case for us: the rehabilitation of a ground outlet (leakage ) of a fire water system. It is nice to notice that the client thinks about applications that are relevant to them! The next day we do our preparations and we apply our products. The result is a successful rehabilitated ground outlet of the fire water supply of the terminal. While we are busy we also dispose a loose coat layer and rust of a very rusted pipe. Our Alucemp coating is applied on this surface as a test. Again we get very positive feedback from the PV Oil people.

Lunch break - after eating the noodle soup, which is quite a challenge for a European, we look at the test results. The rehabilitation is successful. We can return to The Netherlands feeling satisfied. PV Oil is positive and tells us that we have very useful products for many different applications on their Oil tank terminal. Both parties are happy so we are definitely going to follow up. We leave for the airport, draw our conclusions and make plans for the future.

It was a successful week! Now it is up to us to follow-up on this succesfull trip. See you on the Ascope exhibition in November 2013, Ho Chi Minh City.
